being a multiple means ....
that “I” is rarely an “I”
but rather a “we”
and that “I”
is never really sure
when to use “I” or “we”
that “I” tries to explain things
that “I” doesn’t always understand
that “I” constantly questions
whether “I” is making all this up
just for attention
that right now “I” cries
almost every day
cause the pain is so bad
that “I” sometimes sucks her thumb
and talks like a 3-year-old
(which is fun, confusing and
sometimes embarrassing)
that, even at age 39, “I”
carries around stuffed animals
and sleeps with them
in “her” arms every night
that “I’s” true feelings
are often kept hidden
so that no Outsider
can tell who “I” is
or how much
“I” is hurting
that “I” unintentionally hurts
friends and family
because “I” is only trying to cope
with what is going on Inside
– still trying to survive
that “I” is very scared
about other people knowing
about “us”
that “I” loves all the family and friends
who have not stopped caring
even when they did know
that “I’ wants to help “us”
and other multiples
by speaking out
