Gloucester watching his friends on our blog
Will he be a follower?
Yes Gloucester saw his friends, The Little Beans, on his owner’s computer. Wonder if he’s now a follower of our blog. The Little Beans are absolutely thrilled of course and hope to be seeing him soon in “person” (or mouse) again. In the meantime we will read them (and the kids Inside) the story Gloucester’s owner sent us. if you want to read it to here’s the address.
Books are wonderful aren’t they? Stories are wonderful. Tv is wonderful. Or is it...? Some of us think it is our surrogate mother, soothing, comforting, dependable (unless there’s a power outage), provides a sense of routine, and makes fairly good company. Some of us get truly addicted. Misfit (7) is one of them. She used to watch a British show called “Thief Takers”, fell “in love” with one of the characters and hung on every show. When that character was no longer on the show she was devastated. But it didn’t take her long to find a new character. Now she is hooked to “Supernatural”, a show made right here in Vancouver.
Every once in a while we don’t watch a lot of tv. That always amazes us. Then we get into books big time. But that doesn’t last too long before we’re back into it. A few years ago a number of alters were in their teenage years and they behaved like teenagers. They were so hooked that we watched tv for hours and hours. And some of the shows they liked ... well, a number of us adults weren’t that thrilled but we didn’t stop them for the most part. When we visited Lance they had to have the tv on then too. Fortunately Lance didn’t mind. Graham lives with Lance and last year bought a big flat screen and got high definition. Well Tee-Tee (3), age almost 11, got hooked then and wanted to visit often. He especially loved the nature shows, or shows that travelled to different countries. Better taste than the teenagers.
Yes, tv is a big part of our society now and it certainly has its down side. The news can make you become pretty fearful of the world. It can make you think the whole world is disintegrating and civilization is about to fall. Well who knows, maybe it is. It’s great to know what’s happening in the rest of the world sometimes but other times it’s quite depressing. Fortunately, we go to bed pretty early in the evening so we miss all the prime time shows, like the Oscars.
Anyway, these days we enjoy books more. We watch an episode or two of Supernatural (Lance lent us season 1 and 2) but the rest of the time we read. Some of us think reading is a much healthier activity than tv. But we’re pretty sure we will be back at the tube some time. Maybe watch some of those old movies on TCM. That’s always fun and less damaging maybe. It’s always good to know that tv is there though. We just can’t seem to live without it.
